6th Texas Hold'em Poker Cruise 2014
This is one of our favourite events and after hosting this event at Seaworks for the past six years, the seventh year seemed like déjà vu’. Another great turnout of over 250 chrome bumper, muscle cars and street rods shining on a dry day with the sun peeking out, the same great vista from the Ann St pier to Melbourne’s CBD, the Headliners blasting out some classic tunes and the Pirates Tavern busy keeping entrants and the public hydrated. Then there’s the Poker game with 250+ players, the kids card games, the face painter and the kids colouring contest. All with some great prizes on offer. Like, the TV and set of BFG T/A tyres that Helen took home with her to Fawkner in her Falcon. The two Kincrome eskys that everyone wanted to win for the Poker games runners up also found new homes.
Did I mention that long time LGC Cruiser subscriber Warrick picked up the $100 from the first Cruiser draw and was seen shortly after enjoying lunch in the Tavern financed by his win.
All too soon it was 3 o’clock and with the majority of entrants still on site enjoying the day, and it was time to draw a card to find the winner of the $500 cash prize on offer.
To kick start proceedings LGC President, Alan Newton presented a cheque for $1000 to Williamstown Rotarian Eddie Knight to support their ongoing community service projects right across the western suburbs. Next up was the drawing of the second Cruiser $100 and another long time Cruiser, Peter picked up the cash. He was then asked to draw the winning card from all the entrants present and after Ronnie’s card came out he raced off to get his ’56 Corvette back up to the band’s stage to collect his cash prize.
A successful fund raising day for the Williamstown Rotarians as wells as the Williamstown Maritime Association and Seaworks. Every year the hard work the volunteers put into improving the Seaworks project shows and the funds raised by events such as ours greatly assists them in achieving their aims for the site.
And of course, another fun day out for ‘chrome bumper’ owners and their families with some very happy prize winners. Who said it was only pirates that carried off booty?
